Introduction
Computer virus is also a man made program but destructive program. It is a small computer program that harms computer software and data in many ways. Since, the computer virus is malicious computer program, it disrupts the normal functioning of computer. A computer virus is an illegal, self-replicating harmful program which infects data, programs and even computer system.
Computer Virus are the malware that is capable of copying itself and typically has a detrimental effects and demerits, such as corrupting the system or destroying the data of the devices with different ways. And today in this article I am going to write about the types of viruses, its symptoms, and it's ways of protection from it. I hope you guys find this article helpful.

Symptoms of Computer Virus:
Once the computer is infected by virus, it starts showing the various symptoms on the computer.
Some of the common symptoms of computer viruses are given below:
- Viruses reduce the memory space of computer.
- Viruses change the size of computer files.
- Viruses change the extension of files.
- Viruses show unusual error messages on the computer screen.
- Viruses may hang or shutdown the computer automatically, while working.
Types of Computer Virus:
These are various types of viruses found but some of the most common and popular types of computer viruses are listed below.
- Message Carrying Virus: The message carrying virus is a type of computer virus which does not infect the program and files but entertains the user by producing and displaying unnecessary message, quotation, pictures etc on the screen. The computer user may get disturb due to such messages.
- Boot Sector Virus: The boot sector is a type of computer virus which infects the information system during the startup process. It tends to create a bad sector of the hard drive or the floppy.
- System Infector Virus: The system infector is type of computer virus that infects the various parts of operating system or Master Control Program (MCP). It also damages the system files of operating system which alerts the computer while booting.
- File Infector Virus: The file infector virus also known as application infector virus is such type of computer virus which infects the damages the executable files of application packages. The files with "com" or "exe" extensions are altered by this virus and software cannot be executed.
- Multi Partite Virus: The multi partite is a type of computer virus that infects both executable files and boot sector. It is hybrid virus which is comparatively more infectious and difficult to remove from the computer.
- Polymorphic Virus: The Polymorphic is one of the most dangerous and harmful computer virus. This virus cannot be easily detected and removed by antivirus program.
Means of Spreading Computer Virus:
The several means of spreading virus are as follows:
- Internet : Internet is used world widely, some people are using for good thing likewise some are using for bad purposes. Internet comes in number one at the means of spreading computer viruses. Many devices get infected from viruses through internet.
- Email : Email comes in second place. Many users are suffered from viruses in their devices through email.
- Pirated Software : If you are using fake or pirated software or other unvalid stuffs, then your device have very high chance of get infected from computer viruses.
- USB drive (Pen drive) : If you are using USB drive (Pen drive) or other driver which is already infected from virus, then your device will also get suffered from viruses for sure. So, make sure you scan the USB drive before using it.
- CD/ DVD : In CD/ DVD also it is the same case. If you use affected CD/DVD in your device, your device may also get infected, so scan before the use.
- External Hard Disk : Your device may also get affected from the external Hard disk. So, make sure you use it properly and keep scanning frequently to get protected from the viruses.

Anti Virus is a computer program that is used to scan, detect and remove viruses from the computer system. It is a software tool that scans for viruses and takes action to remove them. An anti-virus software is used to prevent and protect our computer from viruses.

Protection from computer Virus:
Computer virus cause great harm in the computer system in different ways. They irritate the user while using and working on the computer. Every year millions and billions of dollars is being invested due to computer viruses. Therefore, we should follow the preventive measures to avoid virus infection. Following are the some preventive measures from computer viruses.
- Installing latest antivirus on the computer and updating it regularly.
- Scanning the computer and external storage devices for viruses on regular basis.
- Locking the computer using strong password.
- Using the genuine (not pirated) software.
- Not allowing other people to use the computer without permission.
- Check the new software for virus before installing it.
